GES Warns Schools Against Charging Students Exam Fees
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned all public basic schools not to ask students for money before allowing them to take exams.

This warning comes after Eduwatch Africa, a non-governmental organization, raised concerns. According to the group, some school heads are demanding money from parents for printing and examination fees—charges that are not officially allowed.
Reports also suggest that some heads of schools have even threatened to prevent students from writing exams if their parents do not pay these fees.
Eduwatch Africa has condemned this behavior, calling it both illegal and wrong. They stressed that the government is already covering the cost of education through the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (fCUBE) program, so no extra charges should be made.
Speaking in an interview on Morning Starr, the Acting Director of GES, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, confirmed that schools are not allowed to collect exam fees from students. He said his team has been directed to inform all school heads to stop this practice immediately.

Professor Davis made it clear that any school head caught charging such fees would face punishment. “What they’re doing is not acceptable,” he said. “We will take action against any school head who ignores this directive.”
