NEWS IN: Teacher union to stage a mega demonstration on 15th December over laptop deductions
All Teachers Alliance Ghana (ATAG) and other aggrieved teachers in other unions are set to embark on a serious demonstration on 15th December, 2021 to express it displeasure over the deduction Ghc 509 from Teacher’s Professional Development Allowance for the payment of the inferior laptops procured by the three greedy and selfish teacher unions (One -teacher -one- laptop policy).
This upcoming demonstration seeks to draw the attention of the management of Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately make the necessary arrangements with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to refund the deducted money.
The General Secretary of All Teachers Alliance Ghana, Albert Dadson Amoah, in a Citi News interview said “on 15th December 2021, they should prepare for us. Teachers are minimizing themselves. We want to use this forum to call on GES once again to immediately refund the GHS 509 to teachers.”
“Besides, there are some GES workers who are not teachers, there are the cleaners, cooks, etc. Some earn as little as GHS 700 and the government has gone ahead to deduct GHS 509 from their salaries. How are these people expected to survive?”
“GES has disrespected teachers for so long, and they are going to stage a demonstration to protest this decision”, he blurted.
However, Stephen Desu, the president of Innovative Teachers Association of Ghana also insist that the decision of ATAG and other aggrieved teachers to embark on such demonstration is unnecessary since there is a pending court case on the matter.
