We need experienced hands for the betterment of our education system – Edu. Ministry to Teacher Unions
The Ministry of Education has insisted on it decision for the contract extension of the Deputy Director of management service of the Ghana Education Service, Mr Anthony Boateng despite an opposing reaction from the Teacher Unions.
According to the management of the Education Ministry, Mr Anthony Boateng’s expertise is needed to improve the education sector.
The Teacher Unions in a released statement yesterday, 22nd August, 2022 called on the Education Ministry to decline the offer of extension of the Deputy Director and other person’s who have past their retirement age to vacate office.
The Union Leaders in the statement threatened that they will call on their members to disregard directives from the Deputy Director if the Ministry fails to listen.
Reacting to that, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Education, Yaw Opoku Mensah said the government is not obliged to heed to the unions call.
“Within this critical period, we need experienced hands like that to be able to ensure that you carry out the reforms that are needed for the betterment of our education system.”
“Within the legal provisions and without expertise, nobody within the system questions his ability to finish what we started together,” Mr. Boateng said.
“He will continue his current role and assist in the development of the Ministry’s National Education Institute”, he added.
