Teacher Unions Demand Cost of Living Allowance From Government To Teachers & All Educational Workers
A release from four (4) Teacher Unions to the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations sighted by Honestynewgh is hereby demanding Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) for teachers and all educational workers.
The unions include Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Coalition of Concern Teachers, Ghana (CCT-Ghana) and the Teacher and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU).
The release noted that, ln recent times, Ghanaians have been experiencing incessant fuel increases, normally without advance notice and electricity is having its equal share of astronomical increases, while prices of foodstuffs and other consumables keep sky-rocketing all to the detriment of a helpless and hapless citizenry.
According to the Teacher Unions, they have recognize the economic challenges facing their members (teachers), like all other public sector workers. Despite the fact that their take home pay does not really take them home, they continue to give of their best to Ghanaian children, and they salute them for that.
In the release, the Teacher Unions noted that the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) will supplement their salaries to pull them out of economic woods.
“We go further hereby to demand that Government institutes a Cost of Living Allowance -COLA for them, to supplement their salaries, to pull them out of the economic woods in which they find themselves, curently” the release said.
“We hope government and all who matter, would listen to us, for the good of us all”, the release stated.
