Universities not at risk of shutting down, we’ll continue to engage UTAG- Education Minister
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education has assured that all relevant channels would be used to reach and engage UTAG to address their concerns.
“The UTAG strike is unfortunate and as we did the last time when UTAG embarked on strike, it will happen this time around to make sure that we can bring a resolution to this problem,” he made this pronouncement at a press briefing on Sunday, 30th January, 2022.
“We do continue to engage them as to how best we can get them back. As a Minister for Education, I’ve said that I am the chief advocate for teachers and professors. When we find ourselves in this space, I do everything possible, formally and informally, front door and back door to make sure that we come to some resolution,” he added.
According to Dr Samuel Nkumbaan, the President of the University of Ghana Chapter of UTAG, the Association since 2019 has held negotiations with government which has yielded no impact.
Henceforth the lecturers cannot continue to hold perpetual negotiations with the government.
He added that the Government has continously held negotiations and has used that as a weapon to cause associations to suspend their strike action without any measures assembled to bring a resolution to the problem.
