However 2021 statistics by EMIS, a branch of Ministry of Education has revealed a shocking data indicating that between 2020 and 2021, eighteen thousand, three hundred and seventy-six (18,376) primary school teachers resigned from the service lowering the number of primary school teachers by 14.7%.
In addition the statistics uncovered that 16,784 left the JHS. This result according to stakeholders is unusual, shocking and disturbing since Ghana has never seen a close to 15% annual attrition ratio like this before.
It is actually hellacious to understand the motives behind this mass movement but it is also clear in the nutshell as study has revealed that poor renumeration and loss of status and prestige among other reasons compel teachers to abandon the teaching profession.
