The National Executive Committee of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has revealed that its members will lay down their tools from Friday, October 8.
According to the Association, this decision has come to stand after the committee held its 20th Congress following discussions with the government on Monday, September 26, to discuss its wages and welfare packages.
It was revealed at the meeting that the government could not go beyond the Cedi equivalent of $1200 payable in 2024, an amount that was rejected by the Association in a previous meeting.
UTAG however, proposed a minimum of the Cedi equivalent of $250 per month for research allowance (plus a review of the 2024 implementation)
The Association has decided to resume its suspended strike after a statement by its National Executive Committee is released on October 4 following the lack of agreement with government. The said release will therefore contain the modalities of the strike action.

“There is no need for any further negotiation on the proposed conditions of service ( $250 per month for research) ” and “UTAG will only return to work after the conditions are agreed and signed to by government,” they insisted.
