Will there be recruitment into public service 2025? – Check the truth here

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has addressed recent rumors, confirming that there is no freeze on public sector employment.

In an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, March 12, Dr. Ato Forson rejected claims that the government had stopped hiring across various sectors.

His comments come amidst growing concerns about job availability in the public sector, as many questioned whether the government had imposed hiring restrictions according to a section in the 2025 budget communicating that, “Government will implement the following measures to keep the wage bill within sustainable levels:

“i.Fully implement the net freeze on employment by immediately putting on hold all recruitments/replacement into the Public Service, given that the recent realignment and collapse of some MDAs has brought about surplus labour.”

“In this regard, there will be no extension of contracts for all public officers, except in Education (universities), which will be capped and done within budgetary constraints,” the budget stated.

However, Ato Forson firmly stated, “There is no freeze on employment,” and assured the public that recruitment would proceed according to the country’s economic needs.

This clarification is likely to ease the anxiety of job seekers and public sector employees who have been uncertain about the government’s recruitment plans. The Finance Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to job creation and improving employment opportunities, especially for the youth.

Furthermore, the statement underlines the government’s focus on maintaining essential public services and ensuring that critical sectors, such as healthcare and education, continue to have the necessary staff.

Dr. Ato Forson’s comments are in line with broader economic strategies designed to strengthen Ghana’s labor force and stimulate growth.
