News In : Students of Savannah College of Education lock up lecture halls in protest to demand refund

Students at Savannah College of Education have reportedly become more upset as they continue protesting the school’s private status. Most of the protesters are first-year students who are asking for their tuition fees to be refunded.

According to reports gathered by Honestynewsgh.com, they were originally told that the college would become a public institution, but they recently discovered that it is still a private.

The students have already taken action by locking the lecture halls and boycotting classes. They believe the college’s management gave them false information about the school’s status. This belief grew stronger when they saw the college listed on the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) website, but when they arrived at the school, they learned it was still a private institution.

Some students who pleaded anonymity told Myjoyonline, “We have been scammed, and so, we will not attend lectures or patronize any academic activities until management opens up on the actual status of the college. It’s clear they have something up their sleeves that we need to know.

When some of us saw the college’s name on the website of [GTEC], that the college was absorbed into the public sector, we were convinced and bought forms and were given admission to the college, only for us to hear rumors of a private status and all manner of stories.”

“Now, everyone, including the principal, is avoiding us. So, until we know our fate, no tutor will be allowed on campus in the name of teaching, “they indicated.

At the moment, the students are demanding either a refund of their fees or for the college to become a public institution immediately. Some students out of fear have travelled back home, while others are still focused on their demands.
