A tragic incident has occurred in Takoradi, with the death of a final-year student from the Takoradi Technical University.
The student, identified as Derrick, reportedly took his own life in his private hostel in the West Tanokrom area of the Effia-Kwesiminstim Municipality in the Western Region.
It is reported that Derrick hanged himself using a sponge on his ceiling fan.
According to Joana, one of Derrick’s co-tenants, she had spoken to him the morning before and he seemed to be doing well.
However, when she noticed his phone ringing unanswered the next morning, she became concerned and discovered his lifeless body in his room. The police were called and they have launched an investigation into the matter.
The body has been taken to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue.
Some residents in the area have expressed suspicion about the circumstances surrounding Derrick’s death. One resident, Sammy, who visited the scene before the police arrived, noted that there may be more to Derrick’s death than initially thought.
Sammy pointed out that Derrick’s hands were tied behind his back, leading to questions about whether foul play may have been involved.
The Takoradi Central Police Station has dispatched personnel to the scene to gather more information and investigate the situation further. The community is currently reeling from the sad news and is awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.
