This directive from the court is a result of a case brought before it by 102 teachers in the Eastern Region who are owed salary areas for more than five years.

Failure by GES to fulfil its obligation forced the lawyer of the plaintiffs to secure another writ through which the vehicles of the GES director, regional sports director, New Juaben South Municipal Director, Kwabeng Anglican Senior High/ Tech have all been impounded.

The group led by their leader, Eric Effah Darko says all effort to get the Eastern Regional Education Service to pay the judgement debt has not yielded results hence the action.

“We are 101 teachers, some from basic and senior high school. Appointment letters were given us between 2012 -2015 but we begun receiving salaries in 2016. We wrote several letters to get GES to get us our salaries, but all their promises failed,” he recounted.

He added that: “We took this action because in 2019 we decided to fight for our rights. We had a lawyer to pursue our case for us. In May 2021 by court orders we took action to impound 4 vehicles after the GES refusal to heed to the judgement of the court. They came to court to beg and promised paying us so the cars were released. It’s been over 6 months now and we haven’t heard anything from them. Our lawyer had to return to the court for an order to impound the vehicles again. We need to be paid. It’s unfair for anyone to treat us this way.”
